Anne's Story

Anne M. Hayes died peacefully in North Andover on August 17, 2017 at the age of 85.
Born in Lawrence and a resident of Andover for many years, she was the only daughter of Frank L. and Agnes M. Morris (Nolin). In 2002, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Daniel A. Hayes.
She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in 1950 and of Lowell Teachers College in 1954. Before marriage, she taught school in North Hampton, and Andover. She later returned to teaching in Lawrence for 26 years.
She is survived by four children, Kathleen Gillies of Yarmouth, Maine and her children Caitlin of Brooklyn, N.Y., Connor of Boston, Mass., Maribeth Bennett and her husband James of Brighton, West Sussex United Kingdom and their children, Joseph, Helena and Kit, also of Brighton, Daniel A. Hayes, Jr. and wife, Kerri of Methuen, Mass. and their children, Benjamin and Avery, also of Methuen and James F. Hayes and wife Barbara of Merrimac, Mass. She is also survived by her brother, Michael W. Morris and his wife, Mary Joan of Andover, Mass. and her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Morris of Amesbury, Mass. and by 11 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her beloved brothers, F. Richard Morris, Edward A. Morris (Brother Leo Richard), and Attorney Frank L. Morris, Jr. and by her sister-in-law, Kathleen E. Morris.

She had an abiding belief in the power of education and was extremely proud of her years of service and commitment to children, particularly those of her hometown of Lawrence. Anne was filled with a respect and wonder for the spirit, generosity and achievement of each of her children, in which she took tremendous pride.
She will be missed deeply.
Anne’s family will hold a memorial service in her honor in mid October and is greatly indebted for the care and support given to Anne by the loving staff of The Prescott House.
