ANDOVER: Arlene (Gianino) Sofia, 72, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers, on July 15,2015 after a long illness.

Arlene was born in Winthrop, on January 23, 1943, the third of six daughters to Ralph and Lena Gianino. She was happily married to Anthony J. Sofia for 52 wonderful and loving years. Arlene will be remembered fondly for being a great family oriented person who cherished having family and friends near. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Tony as well as her few “Sister” trips/adventures. She loved spending time with her three daughters. Arlene’s favorite thing was her grandchildren and being with them; spoiling them and watching them grow.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Tony. She leaves behind her three daughters, Deborah Sofia of Lowell, Karen Schwarz and her husband, Joseph of Methuen, and Susan Phenix and her husband, Brian of Acton. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Rachel, and Emily. Arlene is survived by her sisters, Barbara Sinatra, Carole Muise, Diane Ferrara, Jane Gianino, and Elaine Gianino, who predeceased her in 2013.

Arlene also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Fran Ferrara and Harold Baum as well as many additional family and friends, especially her dear friends, Dorothy Labonte, and John and Joanne Regan. Arlene will be dearly missed by all.

A Funeral Mass was offered on Monday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church Main St., North Andover. Burial followed in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
