ANDOVER: Charles E. Burns, 89, of Andover and Dennis, Mass., passed away peacefully at home with family on Thursday morning, June 11, 2015. Beloved husband of Julia M. (Foley) Burns of Andover for 50 years, devoted father of Patrick Burns, father-in-law of Tracy, and grandfather of Evelyn Charlotte of Santa Monica, Calif. Proud uncle of 25 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two older brothers, Edward Jr. and Robert Burns. Born in Bangor, Maine, to Edward Sr. and Ada Burns. Attended Hampden Academy and a three-sport athlete in baseball, basketball, football, and was a lifelong Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan. Graduated high school in 1944, and enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Radioman during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Completed a bachelor's degree from University of Maine, Orono, and an accounting certificate from Bentley College. He enjoyed a long career with the Arlington Trust Co. in the Merrimack Valley.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 18th, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Augustine's Church, 43 Essex St., Andover, MA 01810. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Andover Fire Fighters Local 1658 (IAFF), 32 North Main St., Andover, MA 01810.
