Claire's Story

ANDOVER: Claire Frances (Sturrock) Haywood, 88, of Andover, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Prescott House in North Andover. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. she was the daughter of the late William and Clara Sturrock. Claire was the loving wife of 53 years to the late Robert Haywood. She is survived by her daughters, Diane LeBlanc and her fiance, Glen Davis of North Andover and Barbara Risch of Haverhill, as well as Barbara’s children, Alana Johanson, Rich Risch and his wife Norma, April Afonso and her husband, Ron and Joe Risch as well as her sister, Marilyn Meyerson of Sana Belle Island, Fla. She was predeceased by her son, Peter. After moving to Andover she worked at Merrimack College first as a telephone operator then moving into the Public Relations Department. In addition, she was Merrimack’s sailing coach. After leaving Merrimack, she worked at The Teacher’s Pet in Lawrence. In later years, Claire volunteered her time at the Andover Senior Center. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a wonderful cook and as someone who enjoyed gardening, crafts and reading.

Family and friends were invited to calling hours on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover.
