ATKINSON, NH: Gail (Laney) Volz, 68, of Atkinson, N.H. died Thursday, March 10, at her home. Gail was born in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of the late Nolia (Pope) and Charles Laney. She grew up in Prescott, WI and graduated from Prescott High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire.
Gail was an adventurer. She and her husband migrated East from St. Paul making a 7-year stop in the Philadelphia area before settling down in Newburyport where they raised their two children. Most recently she was working as a Sales & Marketing Associate for Boston Dynamics in Waltham. She spent 13 years working in the main office of Newburyport High School and also served as the Director of the Adult Education Program. She was devoted to her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her, despite the occasional political discussion. She was an avid reader, had a deep faith in God, a fascination for new technology, and had a passion for home decorating. Last year she enrolled in an Interior Design program with the intention of starting a new career. Gail lived in eight states in her lifetime, and her favorite place to be was wherever her family lived.
Gail will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 44 years, David Volz of Atkinson; her children, Trevor Volz and wife Lynne of Concord, Mass. and Whitney Bourgeois and husband, Mathew of Andover; her siblings, Robert Laney of Las Vegas, Nev., Shannon Staiger of St. Paul, Minn., Sarah Carmichael of Rockford, Ill. and Pamela Angell of Shakopee, Minn.; her grandchildren, Lainey and Sophia Volz and James and Jack Bourgeois and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Laney.
A prayer service was held Wednesday, March 16, at 4 p.m. followed by visitation until 7 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H.
