Hildegard's Story

Text size

Hildegard M Lebow, 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Andover, Mass., on October 10, 2016. She was the beloved mother of Joan Demarest, Mary-Louise Broderick, and James Lebow; grandmother to Peter, John, David Demarest, Hilary and Jessica Broderick; and great-grandmother to Andre Demarest.
Hildegard emigrated to the United States with her family in 1940 to escape Nazi persecution. Her father then founded Marum Knitting Mills in Lawrence, Mass. He subsequently founded Marum's Retail Store, where Hildegard starred as the "go to" salesperson. "Where's Hildegard?" was often heard when people came to shop. Hildegard was an avid cook, tennis, and bridge player. She was a lifelong Democrat, and like her parents, "was always for the underdog." She never failed to put the needs of others before her own.
Hildegard was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters, one of whom was her identical twin, Margot Lebach.
Memorial services will be private.
