ANDOVER: James Kimball Carlsen, 19, of Rock O Dundee Road, son of Katherine (Wanzer) Carlsen of Andover and the late David V. Carlsen, died Monday, June 30, 2015, in the Lawrence General Hospital.

James was born in Beverly on November 19, 1995, and attended the Ipswich schools during his early years. He moved to Andover and graduated from the West Middle School and Andover High School. James loved to swim and was an excellent archer, scuba diver and guitarist. He planned to attend college in the fall. He was interested in becoming a marine biologist.

James was a kind and sweet young man. He was consistently pleasant and polite and will be missed by many.

In addition to his mother, Katherine, he is survived by a sister, Jenny Carlsen Shuman and her husband, David; niece, Kaiva Shuman, and nephew, Mikhail Shuman, all of Ipswich;aunts and uncles, Tom and Linda Carlsen of Plattsburg, N.Y., John and Suzanna Carlsen of Pottsville, Pa., Steven and Lana Wanzer of Columbus, Ohio, and aunts, Margie Wanzer of Columbus Ga., and Susan Wanzer of Ipswich.

Visiting hours were held Monday, July 6, 3 to 7 p.m. in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, followed by a service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Andover Youth Services, Attn: Bill Fahey, 36 Bartlet St. Andover, MA 01810, to be used to help Andover Youth become good and productive citizens.
