Jessie Rousmaniere passed away in Andover peacefully on June 19 at age 97 with her youngest son Arthur (Art) and his wife Jennifer at her side. Jessie had moved from Southbury, Conn. to Marland Place, Andover following the death of her husband, James Ayer (Jim) Rousmaniere of New York in 2004. She then moved to Bayberry in Tewksbury in 2009. Jessie was a self-proclaimed “army brat”, born in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Brigadier General John Pierce and Kate Bodine Pierce; she grew up in countless army bases around the United States before marrying Jim in San Diego in 1943. Jessie and Jim eventually settled in Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y. and raised eight children. Jessie enjoyed her 12 years living in Andover and Tewksbury, and she especially appreciated the local public libraries, bookstores, restaurants, and the sporting and social events of her grandchildren Adam and Kelly when they attended Brooks School and Andover High School. Jessie leaves a sister, Isabel Ward of Indianapolis, and the rest of her children, John of New York City, Peter of Woodstock, Vt., James Jr. of Keene, N.H., David of Charlotte, N.C., Joe of New York City, Ned of Minneapolis, Minn. and Kate of Oxford, Ohio and their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church in Andover on July 23 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Church, 33 Central Street, Andover, MA 01810.
