Madelaine Y.'s Story
Loyal friend and tireless volunteer, "Maddy" St. Amand passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2016. She spent years advocating for the disabled through her membership and chairmanship on Andover's Commission on Disabilities. Her services were highly valued on many other town committees, as well.
Born in Springfield, she was the loving daughter of Eugene and Eliane (Giroux) St. Amand.
Madelaine held two advanced degrees, one in business administration and the other in social work from Boston College. Her skills in social work led her to counseling and advocating for patients with AIDS.
Maddy was a cancer survivor and an avid reader. She took great pride in her home and loved her rescued dogs and cats. She was known to be "mom" to as many as three golden retrievers at any given time.
Madelaine is survived by her sister, Sylvia St. Amand of Springfield.
Graveside services are private.
Donations may be made to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 808, Hudson, MA 01749 or to the AIDS Action Committee, 75 Armory Street, Boston, MA 02119.
