ANDOVER: Mary (Eliopoulos) Lazarakis, 87, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 30, at the Kaplan Family House surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 20, 1928, in Salem, Mass., she was the daughter of Thomas and Konstantina (Apostolopoulos) Eliopoulos of Langadia Greece.
Mary was the sister of Louise Kessaris and Elizabeth, Angelo, and George Eliopoulos. She was predeceased by her husband Vassilios, of Geraka, Greece. Raised and educated in Salem, she was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1946 and later moved to Marblehead where she worked with her husband at their painting business. Mary was an accomplished master dress maker. She also volunteered at South Elementary, West Elementary and Sanborn Schools in Andover. Mary's most cherished accomplishment was her contribution in the raising of her two grandchildren, Dimitri and Dina Roumeliotis.
Besides Dimitri and Dina, Mary is survived by her daughter, Felicia and her husband, Aris Roumeliotis of Andover; her son, Charles and his wife, Pamela of Hamilton; her cousins, Alexandra Tingas of Peabody and Potoula Brown of Manchester and several nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Service will be held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Road in Andover, on Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects beginning at 9 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.
