Text size

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dover Clay Crawford of West Peabody, Mass. Mr. Crawford was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. He began his college education at Washburn University, but enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, at the height of the Korean Conflict, after his sophomore year. After attending the U.S. Navy School of Music, Mr. Crawford served in the far east aboard the U.S.S. Boxer, an aircraft carrier, as a musician-seaman. Following an honorable discharge in 1955, with many decorations, Mr. Crawford earned a Bachelor’s degree in music composition and a Master’s degree in music education at Boston University. He was happily married to the late Maureen Watson Crawford from 1956 until her passing in 2014. Mr. and Mrs. Crawford resided in West Peabody, Mass., and were active members of the community and Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. After a long and distinguished career as a District Manager and Disability Program Administrator for the United States Social Security Administration, Mr. Crawford enjoyed many happy years of retirement. He passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Bedford, Massachusetts after a long illness. Mr. Crawford is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gleb Kopchenkov and Ann Crawford Kopchenkov of Andover, Mass.; his son, John Crawford of North Reading, Mass.; his sister, Kay Crawford Murray of New York, N.Y.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
