ANDOVER AND BOCA RATON, FL: Mr. William L. McAree, 90, a longtime resident of Andover, Mass., and Boca Raton, Fla., passed away on Monday morning, December 21, 2015.

Born in Lowell, Mass., on April 21, 1925, he was the beloved son of the late Hugh J. and Mary (Moriarty) McAree and beloved husband of the late Lorraine S. (Sawyer) McAree. Bill and Lorraine enjoyed 63 years of an especially close and loving marriage. A shared circle of friends, world-wide travel, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and sunshine of Boca Raton were key parts of their life together. Additionally, he founded and ran the successful William L. McAree Insurance Agency, Inc., in Boston, Mass., for more than 30 years. Family, however, was most important. Bill was a generous and loving father to his daughters, Lisa, Susan, and Joan; and grandfather to John and Kristen. He took great pride providing nurturing, as exemplified during Lorraine’s health challenges in recent years. He will be dearly missed.

Bill was widely read and knowledgeable about many disciplines including history, current events, and science. He also enjoyed good food and friends.

Mr. McAree was a WWII Army veteran, entering the military at Ft. Devens, Mass., on December 23, 1943, and receiving his honorable discharge as a Sargent (Technician Third Grade) at Ft. Devens on May 6, 1946. While in the Army, Bill worked as an Intercept Operation's Specialist. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal for his exemplary service.

He is lovingly survived by his two daughters, Lisa McAree of Charlestown, and Susan McAree and her husband, Karl Kraus of Medford and Sandwich; son-in-law, Michael Harding of Methuen; grandchildren, John Harding and his wife, Sarah, and Kristen Harding and her partner, Daniel Beauchemin; step-grandchildren, Will and Zephan Kraus; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the loving father of the late Joan M. Harding; and brother of the late Dorothy Richardson, Margaret Cusick, and Anna B. Baillargeon.

Funeral services will be privately held. Should friend's desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory may be sent to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Office of Philanthropy, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.For additional information, please visit www.burkemagliozzi.com.
