CAMBRIDGE, MA: Richard D. Artenstein, 83, formerly of Lowell, Andover and North Andover, entered into rest in hospice in Cambridge April 18, 2015.

Born in Lowell, a son of the late Maurice and Irene (Greenberg) Artenstein, he was also predeceased by his sister, Shirley Boches of Lowell, and his brother, Dr. Malcolm Artenstein of Maryland.

After graduating from Bryant College (now Bryant University) in Rhode Island, he served with the U. S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

He returned to join the family business, Phyllis Shoe Company, later to be known as Lowell Shoe Company.

Throughout his life, he was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying bowling, tennis, golf and following all the Boston professional teams.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Kremer) Artenstein of Reading; his son, Alan Artenstein and his partner, Mike Luyet of Boston; and his daughter, Margo McNair of Concord, N.H.; and three grandsons, Jeremy, Eli, and Dylan. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and cousins, including Jack Artenstein of Florida who was like a younger brother to him. And of course, his dear cat Harry.

His Funeral Service was held at the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, on April 20, 2015. Interment in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Chelmsford.
