KEENE, NH: Robert M. Stewart of Concord, N.H., formerly of Keene, N.H., passed away, November 16, 2015, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Highland Park, Michigan, March 4, 1923, the son of Kenneth A. Stewart and Agnes E. (Morrison) Stewart.
Robert grew up in Winthrop. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1940 and Massachusetts State College in 1944.
Mr. Stewart married Theresa Fallon in December, 1945. They lived in Winthrop, Natick, and Andover, before moving to Keene.
He spent his business career in the woolen textile business, starting his work in wool warehouses of American Woolen Co. After graduation from Mass State, he worked as a salesman for Draper and Co., Boston wool merchants. Later, he was a wool buyer for the woolen and worsted division of J. P. Stevens & Co., based in North Andover, and Boston. He moved to Keene to become wool buyer for Homestead Woolen Mills in West Swanzey, N.H. and later was located at Dartmouth Woolen Mills in Claremont, N.H.
Mr. Stewart was a member of the Boston Wool Trade Association and Keene Country Club where he served as a director.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his sister, M. Elaine Dickerson of Virginia Beach; daughter, Ellen S. Ratichek of Bedford; son, Kenneth A. Stewart of Keene, N.H.; son, James A. Stewart of Newbury; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 53 years, his brother, Kenneth A. Stewart and his son, Robert M. Stewart, Jr.
A memorial to his completed life was held Saturday, November 21, at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene. Burial in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com) of Keene, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
