YARMOUTH, MA - Rose Marie Marasco passed away January 2, 2018, at Cape Cod Hospital. Rose was born in Waterberry, Conn., on December 23, 1919, into a family of nine children. She spent her early years in Lawrence Massachusetts, graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Massachusetts General Hospital's Nursing Program and graduated in 1941 and joined the Nursing Staff there where she worked as a surgical nurse for many years. She would often reminisce fondly of her time at Mass. General, the doctors and nurses she worked with, and the people she took care of. Rose would often tell the story of the tragic night she treated survivors of the Coconut Grove fire. Rose kept her nursing license current until her 90s. Rose was marveled by the advances in medicine over her lifetime; two of her sons are physicians.
Rose married Patrick Vincent Marasco and for 50 years was his wife until his passing in 1995. Rose and Patrick lived in Andover, raised four children there, Patrick, Maria, Paul and William, former Yarmouth Selectman. She was a constant presence and inspiration for her children and always the nurse, was most happy when she was taking care of her family. Rose moved to her summer home in Yarmouth and enjoyed gardening, preparing grape jelly from vines she cutivated, time at the beach, and taking care of her ever present dog and cat. Rose was constantly curious and involved in the world around her. Rose would read the newspaper daily, watch current news shows, and would liked to discuss local politics with her family. Rose is survived by four children and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances of Rose's life, written or otherwise, may be sent to William Marasco, 143 River St., South Yarmouth, MA. Public services were Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Morris, O'Connor and Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Dr., South Yarmouth.
