Betty's Story

Text size

LITITZ, PA: Betty A. Krull, 88, died March 23, 2015 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, Pa. Betty moved to Lititz eight years ago from Greer, S.C., and became an active member at Lititz Church of the Brethren, where she loved teaching Sunday School. She had been an avid Bible teacher wherever she lived. She had compassion for women who were struggling, as evidenced by testimonies of those she encouraged.

She loved entertaining, gardening, sewing, and traditional rug hooking. Her passion for color became a business in personal color consultation that led to speaking engagements at national conventions. She was a nationally known, certified McGown teacher of traditional rug hooking, known for her expertise in color, who taught courses on color in hooked rugs at ATHA (Association of Traditional Hooking Artists) workshops, and rug schools throughout the U.S. She was the author of The Secrets of Color in Hand Hooked Rugs.

Betty is survived by four children, Patricia (Randy) Spaak of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cheryl Marsden (Rev. Peter, deceased) of Lititz, Pa., James M. (Tia) Krull of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Janette (Greg) Bombardier of Colchester, Vt.; six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyman Vonhof of Modesto, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard J. Krull, her parents, John A. and Cora (DeVisser) Vonhof, and two brothers, Bob and Kenneth.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27 at Lititz Church of the Brethren, located at 377 West Orange St., (Route 772). Visitation was held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Private burial will be at Graceland East Memorial Park, in Greer, S.C. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
