David John's Story

David John Haley, 72, of Andover died peacefully, April 23, 2016, with family by his side after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Dave was born in Medford, Mass., on February 8, 1944, the son of the late Leo and Margaret (Stanton) Haley. He attended St. Clements Elementary School in Medford, Mass., and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1961. After high school, Dave worked as a draftsman for several years before going to work for the Boston Globe as a driver. Dave worked at the Globe for 40 years at the time of his retirement in 2006. Dave was predeceased by his brother, Leo and sister, Dorothy.
In 1967, Dave married his beloved wife, Donna (Simpson) and at the time of his death had been married nearly 49 years. Together they raised four children in Wilmington and then Andover, Mass. A man of strong Catholic Faith, Dave loved his family, his friends, traveling, fishing, tinkering and reading. His grandchildren meant the world to him.
Dave is survived by his wife, Donna; their four children, Lisa and her husband, James Foley of Middleton, William and his wife, Stacy (Talbot) of Methuen, Christopher of Andover, and Kara and her husband, Daryl Forsythe of Manchester, N.H. He also leaves seven cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn, Grace, Ryan, Liam, Molly, Devin and Micah. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Margaret (Brown) Simpson; his sister-in-law, Carole and her husband, Jerome Crowley of Arlington, Mass.; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Simpson of Andover, Mass. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lahey Burlington 7 West for their kindness and for the care they showed Dave and his family. Dave loved his country and was an Air Force Veteran.

Family and friends called on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence Street, Andover, MA 01810. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in West Parish Cemetery in Andover.
