Text size

Dorothy (Kirton) Dillon, of Peabody and formerly of Marblehead and Andover, passed away on her 90th birthday on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
Born in Framingham on July 16, 1927, Dot was the daughter of the late Robert and Etta (Turner) Kirton. She was raised and educated in Belmont and was a graduate of Belmont High School and Kathleen Dell Secretarial School in Brookline. Dot was married to Albert W. Dillon with whom she spent 59 years in love and marriage until Albert’s passing in January 2011. She worked for many educational institutions as an administrative assistant including Harvard University and Philips Academy and retired from the City of Marblehead. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends and would always find her way to a piano at many gatherings so she could play her favorite tunes while everyone sang along. She particularly loved the many summers she spent with her children and grandchildren at their lake-side cottage in Maine. Dot was an avid card player and also enjoyed her needlework hobbies from knitting to cross stitch to quilting.
Dot will be deeply missed by her children, Jennifer Boshar and her husband, Thomas of Andover, Robert Dillon of Hackensack, Minn., and Marianne Young and her husband, Peter of Windham, Maine; and by her grandchildren Katharine, Daniel and Andrea Boshar, and Tyler Young.
The family wishes to express their sincere thank you to the staff at Brooksby Village and Care Dimensions Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
Services will be private.
Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Resident Care Fund, Philanthropy Office, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960 or to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
