George's Story

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME AND ANDOVER : George Heseltine, age 78, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, formerly of Andover, Mass., passed away peacefully on August 13, 2015, surrounded by his friends and family.

George was a resident of Andover, Mass., for 61 years, educated in the public schools, and graduated from Punchard High School in 1955. At Punchard, he was a member of the football and track teams, as well as active in the Varsity and Photography clubs.

He furthered his education at Merrimack College and Boston College in the field of retail management.

After four years in the Air Force, he returned to Andover where he married his former wife, Helen J. Murphy (deceased), became the owner of Dana's Sport Shop, and continued to be involved in sporting goods sales for over 45 years.

Long active in community affairs, he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis of greater Lawrence, Town of Andover Selectman, coach and director of both youth hockey and baseball, and one of the founders of the Andover Hockey Association.

George married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Bobek, in 1998, moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, in 2004 where he worked in the shoe department at Cabela's, was president of the Dunegrass Condominium Association, and enjoyed playing golf.

George is survived by his wife, Barbara; sisters, Marilyn and Norma; and brother, Charlie; sons, Charlie, Scott (predeceased), and George; step-sons, Mark and David; step-daughters, Jayne and Beth; grandchildren, Chas, Courtney, Scott, Jack, Aubrey, Tess, Brett, Alexandra, Ana-Melisa, Ariana, Michael Jr., Adam, Jacob; over 40 nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Conte Funeral Home of Andover.
