Gertrude "Ronnie"'s Story

Text size

Gertrude Reid Wooten, known to her friends as Ronnie, died of congestive heart failure on December 1, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Stillwater, Minn. She was 90 years old.
Ronnie was born June 1, 1926, in Fall River, to soccer player Johnny Reid and Doris (King) Reid. Early in her life they moved to the Detroit area where she later married her (now deceased) husband, Dr. Arthur Lee Wooten Jr. who was a research chemist and educator. All of her children were raised in Andover, where Mrs. Wooten was a member of the Garden Club and a devoted volunteer for the Home for Little Wanderers. Later in life when she and her husband relocated to Durham, N.C., Ronnie worked for the EPA in Chapel Hill from 1991 till the age of 84 in 2010. After her retirement she moved to Stillwater, Minn.
She was an avid cook and had a keen sense of humor.
She is survived by her four children, Janet, John, Arthur Lee 3rd, and David. And her granddaughter, Leigh-Anne, (Josh Nunley, husband), and great-granddaughter, Amelie.
Her family wishes to thank the Golden Living Center and Lakeview Hospice for their wonderful and sensitive care.
At her request, no service will be held.
