Gordon's Story

YORK, MAINE: Gordon E. Hultstrom, 78, formerly of Andover, Mass., died Saturday, April 11, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He had moved to Sentry Hill at York Harbor in March with his wife, Carla, to be near family. He was born July 18, 1936, in Norwood, Mass., and was a son of the late D. Harold and Agnes M. (Hoel) Hultstrom. He served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957 as a Radio Operator, and graduated from UMass Amherst in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Following graduation, he managed Agway stores in New York and Massachusetts, until he bought Bruckmann’s Lawn & Garden store in Lawrence, Mass., in 1978. He and Carla continued to work there through the fall of 2014.

He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, his constant companion, Carla F. (Lewin) Hultstrom; a son, Kurt E. Hultstrom and his wife, Kimberly (Schoff) of York; a daughter, Nita A. Hultstrom of Waterbury, Vt.; two brothers, Ken Hultstrom and his wife, Phyllis, of Hampden, Mass., and Neal Hultstrom and his wife, Judy, of Woodstock, Ga.; six grandchildren, Kristen, Evan, Leah, Eli, Seth, and Karianna.

Gordon enjoyed many things, including working with his family at Bruckmann’s, visiting with his loyal customers, spending time with his grandchildren, working outdoors and in his workshop at their home in Andover, and helping his daughter with all sorts of projects in Vermont. He also loved to watch the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots on TV.

Gordon was a true gentleman who will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit.

A funeral service will take place at 6 p.m., on Friday, April 24th, in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, with a period of visitation from 5 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private in First Parish Cemetery in York.
