Leonard's Story

ANDOVER: Leonard Hill, 85, of Andover, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2015, in Haverhill. He was born in Worcester on May 2, 1929, and was the son of the late Wietti Leonard and Vera (Carlson) Hill.

He was raised in Holden and was a graduate of Worcester High School. He joined the Navy in 1947, and was stationed in Pearl Harbor until 1950. He studied at Milwaukee School of Engineering and graduated from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst in 1955. In 1958, he received his Master's degree in Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He married and moved to Andover, where he worked at Raytheon Co. for 33 years, until he retired in 1991.

He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, and he was a current member of Christian Fellowship Church in Methuen. He was a member of John Hancock Masonic Lodge in Methuen, where he received his 50-year pin. He loved mountain climbing and was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. He climbed the 100 highest mountains in New England with his son. He was involved with the Boy Scout Troop 2 of Lawrence. He also enjoyed wood carving, fishing, traveling in Europe, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole A. (Martin); his son, Scott L. Hill and his wife, Becky, of Andover; his daughters, Deborah H. Stevens of Andover and Allison M. Frankfort and her husband, Gary, of Westford. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Meghan Sachetta and her husband, Eric, Kenneth Hill, Danielle, Brynn, and Mitchell Stevens, and Brendan, Eric and Brianna Frankfort. He was predeceased by his twin sisters, Bernice S. and Beverly V. Hill; his son-in-law, Peter W. Stevens; and his grandson, Samuel L. Stevens.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, at 11 a.m., at Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. Family and friends called on Thursday, from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
