Bernice E. "Bunny" Downs Obituary

Andover - Andover - Bernice E. "Bunny" Downs, a lifelong resident of Andover, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in New Hampshire, at the age of 94. Born on July 18, 1930, in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ida (Heinz) Bryant.

A devoted public servant, Bunny worked for many years for the Town of Andover until her retirement. Prior to that, she was employed with the telephone company until leaving to raise her family. She was a long time parishioner of Free Christian Church in Andover, where her faith was a guiding force in her life.

Bunny shared 68 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late William T. Downs, whom she met at the iconic Andover Spa. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished family moments. Bunny's happiest days were spent on camping trips to Bar Harbor, enjoying big band music, and dancing in the arms of her husband.

She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Wisecarver, Jr. of Atkinson, NH; Barbara and Robert Morache of Hampstead, NH; and Lesley and Mark Hewett of Brentwood, NH. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren—Christian Wisecarver and wife Sarah, Meagan Wisecarver; William Morache and wife Guinevere; Robert Morache; Dustin Hewett and wife Courtney; Bonney (Hewett) Brunelle and husband Robert; and Brittney Hewett—and six great-grandchildren: Marly, Tighe, and Caden Wisecarver; Riley, Thea and Conall Hewett.

Bunny was predeceased by her sisters Marion Jaffre of Connecticut and Esther Norton of Andover. She also leaves behind several nieces, extended family, and numerous cherished friends.

Growing up in Andover, Bunny graduated from Punchard High School where she was a member of the All Girls Marching Band and also Drum Major.

Throughout her life, Bunny was actively involved in the community of Andover. She was a founding member of the Ladies Auxilliary for the Andover Firemen's Relief Association. She was also a board member on the Andover Home for the Aged.

Her grace, warmth, and steadfast love of family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 3025, at 11 a.m. at Free Christian Church in Andover. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover MA. Memorial donations can be made to the Free Christian Church, 31 Elm Street, Andover.
