Andover - Dr. Clive D. Dalby, 88, of Andover, MA, and Maine, passed away peacefully June 27, 2023, at his home with his family at his side, after a period of declining health.

He was born in Sheffield, England to Ernest and Minnie (Dearlove) Dalby.

A practicing physician for 65 years, Dr. Dalby helped thousands of patients over his lifetime. He was the previous Chief of Psychiatry at Holy Family Hospital and saw patients at his psychiatric practice in Methuen until one month prior to his passing. He was a dedicated physician to his patients.

Dr. Dalby received his medical training at Birmingham University in England and completed his psychiatric residency at Washington University in St Louis. He also served as a major in the British Royal Army Medical Corps in Malaysia. Dr. Dalby was a member of the American Medical Association, Massachusetts Psychiatric Society and Massachusetts Medical Society.

Clive and his wife Phyllis were married for 45 happy years, during which time they traveled to many places, and enjoyed their Maine lake house with family and friends. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. A true English gentleman and a Renaissance man, Clive had many interests and hobbies, including calligraphy, painting, sketching, metalworking, woodworking, fishing, books, boating, photography, trains, cycling, English football, and Jeopardy. He was known for his beautiful English garden, as well as a veggie garden with tasty tomatoes that friends and family were always excited to share. Clive had a life well lived.

Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Gerald and Dennis; and sister, June, Dr. Dalby is survived by his wife, Phyllis, with whom he shared his psychiatric practice. Clive was previously married to Roberta Bell Dalby. He is also survived by his children, Lesley Defigueiredo, Caroline (Mark) Whetstone, Nicola (Tim) Phillips, Julian Dalby, and Suzanne Holland; and his grandchildren, Sebastian, Tyler, Hunter, Jacob, Gabriel, Sienna, Julian, Connor, Samantha, Charlotte, and Vivi.

Family, friends, and patients are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen, MA. A funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 25 Central Street in Andover, MA. Burial will be in West Parish Garden Cemetery, also in Andover.
