Andover - Andover - Enzo Fossella, 88, a long-time resident of Andover and East Dennis, died peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Enzo was born in Gasperina, Catanzaro Italy. At the age of 7, he began to learn the tailoring trade, following in the footsteps of his father. By the time he was sixteen, Enzo opened up his first tailor shop which is when he met his true love and bride Lina with whom he shared over 65 years in loving marriage. In 1954 he set out for America on the SS Andrea Doria arriving in Ellis Island and settled in Brockton, MA where he lived and began working for Davis Sportswear. In 1962 Enzo and Lina relocated to Andover, where they would begin to raise their three daughters. Living in Andover marked the beginning of Enzo's charitable work in the Merrimack Valley community. In 1966, after 12 years at Davis Sportwear, Enzo joined as the head designer at Mighty-Mac. On August 17, 1983, he opened Enzo of Andover which quickly became a staple of Andover center known for the best upscale men's attire and custom suits in the area. Enzo enjoyed many years of success until he retired to Cape Cod at the age of 84 in 2018.

When not at the shop, Enzo was devoted to his wife, Lina. Together they raised three daughters and started a life-long commitment of service to others. Enzo joined the Lions Club in 1963 which began his pattern of leadership that would continue throughout his life. He became President of that organization in 1966. During his time with the Lions Club, he was instrumental in raising funds for the Merrimack Valley YMCA. This was the first of many times Enzo's hard work and leadership resulted in making a difference in the community. Working in Lawrence, Enzo joined the Lawrence Rotary Club in 1976, became President in 1981, and was an active member in the organization until 1993.

Enzo loved and was dedicated to the Town of Andover. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, working closely with town leaders to develop programs for attracting new businesses to Andover. The work of Enzo and other local business people, government officials, and active citizens brought forth innovative ideas that in large part are responsible for the beautiful look of the downtown you see today. In 2013 Enzo was nominated for the Enterprise Bank Community Service Award for his contribution in driving success, jobs, growth, and a vibrant and prosperous community.

While the needs in Lawrence were great, Enzo saw many of the same needs in Andover. In 1993, when his efforts to bring a Rotary Club to Andover did not come to fruition, he decided to form a new organization, the Service Club of Andover, to "Make a Difference" in the lives of our youth and adults with special needs. Enzo, always had a special place in his heart for the youth and our friends with special needs and he believed "they are the most wonderful people on earth."

It is not possible within the content of this writing to capture the difference Enzo's leadership has made and what the Service Club has accomplished but in brief:

Over a three quarters of a million dollars have been raised to support multiple philanthropic organizations including A.C.E., the Andover Youth Foundation, Best Buddies, Class Inc., Creative Living, Ironstone Farms, the Professional Center, the Safe Driver Program, the Special Field Games, Special Programs in the Andover School System, and the YMCA's most recent expansion.

Enzo loved his work, his family, and serving others. He loved his church, serving St. Augustine Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and attending St. Pius Parish on the Cape. He was devoted to his namesake Saint Innocenzo, Madonna di Termini, and Our Lady of Fatima. He loved to garden, the fruits of which his wife Lina would turn into incredible Italian dishes. He loved to make wine and by donating a "Wine Making Night with Enzo" at the Service Club auction he raised funds to help others. Enzo loved flowers. His back yards in Andover and at the Cape were something to behold. He loved the Cape, quahogging, playing bocce on the beach, and hosting family gatherings. Enzo enjoyed returning to the beaches of Soverato, Italy and later in life Enzo traveled with Lina on a yearly basis to Siesta Key, FL. There they enjoyed friends, family, the sunsets and of course the weather.

Enzo is survived by his wife Lina, his daughters, Theresa Pecorelli and her husband Patrick of Andover, MA; his daughter, Joanne Heim and her husband Brad and their daughters, Olivia and Maria of Atkinson, NH; his daughter Lisa Fossella, her children and her fiancé, Karen Partanen, Jordan and James of Wilmington, MA. Enzo is also survived by his brother Monsignor Carmelo Fossella, his sister Anna Pizzimenti both of Italy, predeceased by his sister Maria Castano and his late sister Lena Courtney.

Please note masks will be required for all who attend on Friday. His funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at St. Augustine Parish, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA.
