Lorraine DeLucia Obituary

Andover - Andover - Lorraine DeLucia, 96, a longtime Andover resident, passed away on November 14, at Edgewood in North Andover, where she received wonderful care for the last six years.

She met her husband, Louis DeLucia, while working at RCA. They married in 1954, had three children and stayed in the same house for 64 years.

Lorraine Mary Galyean was born on Broadway in Cambridge to Elizabeth Marie and Charles Irl Galyean. 'Broadway' was a fitting birthplace. She loved musicals and co-produced several community-theater variety shows in Andover, typically including dancing roles for herself and her two daughters.

Helping others was a theme in her life. Her volunteer activities included being a Candy Striper at Bon Secours Hospital, a Girl Scout troop leader, a poll worker and precinct warden in Andover, and a reader for kindergarteners at Saint Augustine's School. Lorraine and Lou brought dinners to the Bread and Roses Community Kitchen each month for many years.

Her spirit was evident in all she did. After reading to kindergartners, she would often lead them in a hokey pokey dance: "Put your right foot in, take your right foot out and shake it all about!"

Lorraine always enjoyed playfully teasing the extraordinary staff at the Woodlands and the Meadows at Edgewood.

When asked by her children how she'd want to be remembered, Lorraine said "as a good dancer!" And dance she did, all through life.

She is survived by her three children, Dianne DeLucia and Elizabeth DeLucia, both of Andover, and David DeLucia, of Norwich, VT. Also among her survivors are her three grandchildren, Libby DeLucia-Harting, Michael DeLucia, and Billy DeLucia, and her four great-grandchildren, Fiona and Lucy DeLucia-Wood, Finn and Clark DeLucia-Harting, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 3rd at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church, 43 Essex St., Andover MA. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, also in Andover. There are no calling hours. Lorraine strongly believed that "Red is Best" She asked that everyone wear something red to her service. The family respectfully requests no flowers, but invites you to make memorial contributions to Bread and Roses Community Kitchen of Lawrence
