Andover - Patricia M. (Carey) Quintal, 87, a longtime resident of Andover, passed away peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, FL, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Patricia was born in Lawrence on July 2, 1937, to the late William and Marguerite (Barry) Carey.
Patricia was the youngest of three, sister to the late William J Carey, Jr. (Ann Carey) and to the late Virginia Smith (David B Smith).
Patricia, also known as Pat and Trisha, graduated from St Mary's High School in 1954, matriculated to Lowell State Teachers College, transferred to Mass College of Art, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art in 1960.
Shortly after graduation, Pat married Richard P Quintal and then began her teaching career at St Lawrence O'Toole Elementary School in Lawrence MA, her Alma Mater. She was a well-known and loved art teacher in Andover, teaching children from pre-school through high school, mentoring many with her kindness, gentle nature and sublime talents.
Patricia and Richard were married for 64 beautiful years and the family of four children include Beth Leavitt (Robert) of Haverhill, MA, Debbie MacKenzie (Greg, former) of Beverly, MA, Richard Quintal (Donna) of Jacksonville FL and Peter Quintal (Eileen) of Ponte Vedra Beach FL. Grandchildren include Alison Leavitt, Connor MacKenzie and his wife, Caroline, Perry MacKenzie, Hunter Quintal, Dylan Quintal, Emma Quintal, step-granddaughter, Ashley Webb, Ryan Quintal, Matthew Quintal and great grandson Noah Webb.
Her 25 nieces and nephews were a big part of her life, known to be a favorite Auntie by many.
Pat and her family spent most of their summers at Square Pond in Maine, teaching her children the values of hard work, the importance of play, sports, art, music and creativity and most importantly, family. She was an active and longtime member of the College Club of Greater Lawrence, a longtime volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center, a member of the Third Order of Mary, a past President of the Hospitality Ministry Group at St Augustine's Parish, Andover.
Pat's beloved family, faith and her community of friends at St Augustine's Parish and beyond were the most joyous parts of her life.
