Andover - Richard "Dick" Muller, 73, of Andover, MA, passed away on February 23, 2026, surrounded by his wife and three daughters after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 4, 1952, in Andover, he was the beloved son of the late Herbert and Ruth Muller.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ann (Martellini) Muller, his high school sweetheart and lifelong partner; his three daughters, Sarah Kilpatrick and her husband Brian of Winchester, MA, Charlotte Bonilla and her husband Mike of Andover, MA, and Jenny Warrington and her husband Craig of Lexington, MA; and four cherished grandchildren, Anna and Madison Kilpatrick, and Charlotte and Grant Warrington. He also leaves behind his three siblings and their spouses, Dr. William and Chris Muller, James and Pam Muller, and Ginny and Tom Busta, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
A lifelong Andover resident, Dick attended Andover High School and graduated from the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore School of Business in 1974. He spent 47 years in the semiconductor industry, a career that took him around the world. Equally important to him was his dedication to the Andover community. He served on the school committee and played a key role in securing approval for the Andover High School field house, an achievement he was especially proud of and one that continues to benefit generations of students.
In 1993, Dick founded Andover's 7th and 8th grade girls travel basketball program, coaching and running the league until 2010. He also served as an assistant coach to Jimmy Tildsley for the Andover High School girls basketball team for 18 years, helping lead the program to 7 state final games and winning 4 state championships. He cherished the opportunity to mentor young athletes and took great pride in the lasting impact he had on the community through sports.
A gifted athlete himself, Dick captained the Andover High School basketball team to the 1970 state championship. He later earned induction into the Andover High School Hall of Fame individually and as a member of the 1970 championship team. Dick also played collegiate basketball at the University of New Hampshire. He took immense pride in these athletic honors, as well as in the accomplishments of his three daughters.
Dick's other great passions included golf and family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dick played a significant role in the lives of his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, offering steadfast love, guidance, and unwavering support. He carried on a cherished family tradition at Longmeadow Country Club, where he formed many friendships. He treasured these times, moments he had hoped would define his retirement years, which were sadly cut short. His love of life, competitive spirit, quick wit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Dick was fortunate to be surrounded by devoted friends and family who supported him throughout his illness. He was sustained by the love of his wife, daughters, and siblings, as well as by his brother-in-law, Scott Martellini, whose time and companionship meant so much to him. He also leaves behind many friends who will miss him greatly and who showed their care through meaningful visits and support during his prolonged illness.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for helping Dick overcome lymphoma and for their tireless efforts, compassion, and devotion in treating his mesothelioma. Their care meant so much to Dick and to his family.
A service to honor Dick's life will be held on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30am at the West Parish Church in Andover, MA. A mercy meal will follow at the Lanam Club in Andover located at 260 N Main Street.
