Andover - Rita Johnson Colombo, age 92, of Andover, formerly Lynnfield, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at her son, Robert's home in Andover.
Born in Rutland, VT on August 4, 1932 she was the daughter of the late George and Elsie (Hector) Johnson.
Rita was a graduate of Proctor High School, Class of 1950. She received her nursing degree from the University of Vermont in 1954 and began a rewarding career in nursing. She retired from her job as a registered nurse from the Floating Hospital in Boston. She was an avid tennis player and was active in her church's bible study and choir. Above all, Rita loved taking care of her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank V. Colombo. She was the loving mother of William L. Colombo and his wife Karen of Oakland, CA, Robert G. Colombo and his wife Lee of Andover, and Peter F. Colombo and his wife Debra of Andover. She was the sister of Carolyn Miglorie of Vermont and the late Norman Johnson. She was the adoring grandmother of Matthew, Justin, Daniel, Caroline, Jennifer, Scott and Hannah and the great grandmother of Gemma.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church, 360 S Main St, Andover on Friday, September 6 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, September 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. A private interment for family will take place at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
