Sandra J. Hitchins

Rosemount - Sandra Jean (Fraser) Hitchins, 68, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Rosemount, Minnesota, after a years-long battle with dementia.
Beloved wife of the late Donald Hitchins, mother of two daughters, Amanda (Hitchins) Lee, and Jesse Hitchins, stepmother to Todd Hitchins, mother-in-law to Michael Lee, and grandmother to Annika and Kellan Lee.
Sandra was born in Lawrence, Ma, on January 16, 1957, to Ian Fraser and the late Claire (Tahan) Fraser. She was raised in Andover, Massachusetts, along with sisters Janet (Fraser) Zaleznik and Laurie Fraser.
Sandra retired from the Methuen Public School system in 2015, where she had worked as both a program director for the Pleasant Valley School and as a first-grade teacher at the Comprehensive Grammar School. She also worked in Religious Education at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Andover, where she was a dedicated congregant for over 30 years.
Throughout her life, Sandy was an active member of her community. Whether through her work as a Girl Scout Troop leader, camp counselor, storyteller, or Big Sister in the Big Brother Big Sisters program, Sandy dedicated herself to the education and enrichment of everyone who was lucky enough to cross her path.
After retirement, Sandy found joy in joining demonstrations against injustice, walking, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and her cat. When dementia robbed her of her independence, she moved in with her daughter and family in Rosemount, Minnesota. Annika and Kellan will fondly remember Saturday morning trips to Dunkin' Donuts with their "Nini".
In addition to her loving family, Sandy leaves behind a circle of extended family and friends, including the Lee and Johs families, members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, and members of the annual Women's Week conference at Ferry Beach in Saco, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization that Sandy supported: The American Civil Liberties Union, Partners in Health, or The Southern Poverty Law Center.
You can also honor Sandy by calling/writing your elected officials to demand the restoration of funding to desperately needed research on Alzheimer's and dementia.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in North Andover at 2 p.m. on August 24th. All are welcome.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
