Andover - Andover - William H. "Bill" Barnes, 85, of Andover, passed away on October 11, 2025, in Haverhill.

Born in Lawrence on April 14, 1940, and raised in Andover, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Alice (Hall) Barnes. Mr. Barnes graduated from Andover High School in 1958 and from Lowell Technological Institute in 1961 with a degree in optical engineering.

Mr. Barnes worked for more than 40 years at ITEK Corporation of Lexington, where he contributed to the development of cameras used on NASA's Viking 1 expedition to Mars and the Hubble Space Telescope. He was a member of the Masons Lodge of Massachusetts, served as a troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America, and, in retirement, helped recruit engineering students for University of Massachusetts Lowell.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Judith (Sutton) Barnes; his son, Glenn Barnes; and his brother, Raymond Barnes Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Marcy Barnes of Somerville; grandchildren, Ewan Henrie and Zoe (Barnes) Donahue; and several nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Arrangements are in the care of H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Bradford–Haverhill. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Doctors Without Borders.
